ROSSO DI MONTALCINO

Produced from vineyards located on the south-western slopes of Montalcino, the Rosso di Montalcino reflects a younger and more immediate interpretation of the estate’s identity while preserving its characteristic depth and balance.

Following harvest, fermentation takes place in stainless steel with gentle extraction and extended skin contact. The wine matures in large Slavonian oak barrels before a final period of bottle aging, preserving freshness while adding texture and harmony.

A treasure trove of labels

The label is framed by a cartiglio enriched with symbolic motifs of strength and prosperity. Stylised pomegranate seeds, inspired by late-Gothic textile ornamentation found in the piazze of Siena, evoke abundance and continuity.

At the center, small lions—drawn from the family crest—represent strength, protection, and lineage. The composition reflects a sense of heritage rendered with quiet authority, where symbolism becomes identity rather than decoration.

Ratings

Donna Olga Rosso di Montalcino 2019

The nose is sweet, dense with dried figs, Luxardo cherries and candied orange peel, lifted by a refreshing blast of mint and wild fennel. The palate leans into berries, abundant sweet, warm citrus and more cherries, before a chocolate finish, but chalky tannins tease out latent earth tones for balance. — Danielle Callegari

Donna Olga Rosso di Montalcino 2020

Clear ruby red colour with a brighter rim. Open nose, cherry, some walnut and fresh cedar wood. Some blood orange on the palate, round and supple, coarse-grained tannins, harmonious acidity, and a medium-long finish.

Donna Olga Rosso di Montalcino 2019

Dark ruby red with a radiant core. Perfumed nose of small, juicy berries and rose petal. Juicy notion on the palate, precise acidity and pleasant fruitiness, is currently still held back by stubborn tannins and dries out a little.

Geological data sheet

The southwestern side of the Montalcino hill is a cultivated landscape, where nature and human presence have coexisted for centuries. Renaissance villas, historic farmhouses, and ancient estates are dispersed across the terrain, each integrated into the rhythm of agricultural life.

Within this setting lies a small parcel dedicated to Rosso di Montalcino, framed by cypress rows and structured gardens that reflect the long history of careful land stewardship in this part of Tuscany.

The vineyard is not isolated from its surroundings, but quietly embedded within them—shaped by exposure, altitude, and the presence of a lived landscape.
